Field Work on a Wheelchair at Hie Shrine and the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho

Hi! I’m Maki. I will tell you about the second part of the field work, from Hie-Shrine to Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho.

Hie Shrine

After the toilet break, we went down the slope which is diagonally left to the Prime Minister’s Office.

It was rather steep. I had my wheelchair pulled backwards.

Entrance of subway

We entered The Capitol Hotel Tokyu from the subway entrance in front of the descending the slope.

Elevator in the Hottel

Take the elevator to the second floor. We used the hotel elevator and went to the floor of Hie Shrine.

Left side of the Hotel entrance

Go to the left of the Hotel entrance. It was a downhill slope. There are many slopes!

And uphill. We emerged on the left side of the shrine entrance.

Hie Shrine

We worshiped a little. We used the slope on the right side.

After that, we followed the same route and headed to the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho.

Four people assisted because of the steep downhill. It was tough if there were no men.

Right side is Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu

Passed through the BIC Camera store and towards Akasakamitsuke subway Station. You can see Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu on your right.
At the entrance of the Garden Terrace, there was a big Chistmas tree.

The Garden Terrace is a newly established commercial facility at the site of former Akasaka Prince Hotel. There are restaurants, offices and hotels at the upper levels. The aisle is very wide and it is easy to walk through by a wheelchair.

Insight of this building

You will find the Akasaka Prince Classic House, if you go straight through the Garden Terrace. The former Li royal family’s Tokyo residence (the former Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka Old building) has been relocated here. It is a wonderful Western-style building built in the early Showa era. It is now used as a wedding hall and restaurant.

We went back to the Garden Terrace and had a toilet break.

Washlet type toilet

After this, we broke up at Akasakamitsuke station.

We used the elevator of the BIC camera store to get to the ticket gate at Akasakamitsuke station. The entrance to the elevator is hard to find.

How was the Hie Shrine and the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho?
There are many slopes around Hie Shrine, and I felt it would be difficult to go if there was only one wheelchair assistant. It would be better to have two or three assistants, and more preferably to have at least one man.
The Garden Terrace was opened in May 2016, so the toilet was wide and the aisle was designed to be easy to pass by a wheelchair. That was the report of the second part.
