Field work in Akihabara area

Hello, I’m Maki. This is a report of our visit to “Akihabara”. As you know, Akihabara is very popular to foreigners. We visited a Maid-Café, the Anime-Center and Yodobashi-Camera in June. It is the first time to visit a Maid-Café – Unknown world for me!

MaidCafe

Let me introduce “@home café” where there are some multilingual waitresses dressed in maid costumes. This website is also written in various languages.

On Saturday, we can walk on the roadway; it is easy to move with a wheelchair.Walk towards the blue signboard (Sofmap.).

Unfortunately, taking pictures at the café is prohibited. The 4th to 7th floors of this building are “@home café”. By using a small elevator, we will go up to the 4th floor.

Because it was Saturday, a lot of people came to this café and we waited to be seated for about 30 minutes. During waiting, we could see the inside of the café and enjoy the world. Maids greeted us by saying, “Welcome home, Master (Mistress, My lady).” It is a fluffy world as seen on TV. You can take a picture with Maids! Please try it!

I can’t recommend using this café’s toilet from a wheelchair user’s point of view. The space is narrow. I recommend using the toilet at our next spot, the Tokyo Anime Center building.

The Tokyo Anime Center

Our next spot is The Tokyo Anime Center. Because the entrance is a little confusing, please be careful not to pass by the entrance. For wheelchair users, I recommend to go from the first (ground) floor by the following route.

First, go to AKIBATASHIRO-Street (AKIBATASHIRO-DORI).

AKIBATASHIRO-Street(AKIBATASHIRO-DORI)

Enter the entrance facing AKIBA TASHIRO DORI. Go to the 4th floor using an elevator.

We got off the elevator and there is the Tokyo Anime Center. There are some animated goods and special exhibitions.

This building is new and the toilet is also clean. If you want to go to the toilet in a crowded Akihabara area, we recommend this.

Yodobashi Camera

Well, lastly Yodobashi camera! From Akihabara station, the central ticket gate is the closest gate. Leave the central ticket gate and go left … you can find the Yodobashi camera building on your right side.

Yodobashi at Akihabara is easy for shopping because all goods are sold in one building. (While at Yodobashi Shinjuku you need to go around multiple buildings.) For wheelchair users, it may be a little inconvenient because the elevator is crowded. This building has some toilets for wheelchair users

We walked around Akihabara in July on a very hot day in spite of the rainy season. Thank you all for your cooperation!
